Why is CCAE Pacific important to your professional life?
Many of us already belong to professional organizations related to our careers in communication, fundraising, government relations, recruitment, alumni, and media and public relations. So why belong to CCAE and get involved in CCAE Pacific?
Like many professional organizations, CCAE Pacific provides excellent opportunities to network with colleagues with the same area of expertise. What makes CCAE Pacific unique is that it unites professionals with different backgrounds from diverse institutions who share the same commitment — the advancement of post-secondary education. This cross-fertilization of ideas and perspectives helps us to approach our work with a broader, more interdisciplinary understanding of what it takes to successfully promote and nurture post-secondary education. All of us can carry that understanding back to our individual workplaces and enjoy more success by working together across departments.
In addition, we share the same social and political environment here in the province of British Columbia. The issues with which we grapple are common to all of us who live here, and yet unique within the nation. It is very helpful to communicate with others who share the same context. ProFusion, our annual regional conference provides a local and affordable opportunity for colleagues to get together and discuss issues pertinent to BC.
For my alumni colleagues, CCAE National and CCAE Pacific provide the only Canadian-based professional development opportunities available. I can personally attest to the value of my alumni colleagues in BC and Canada as a huge source of information and relevant and usable advice.
And finally, CCAE Pacific is a great way to build relationships. It is a modest-sized organization that facilitates getting to know one another quickly and easily. It’s fun! I encourage you to get involved.
