Paul Woods
 |
Paul Woods has spent nearly three decades with Canada's national news agency: 20 years as a journalist and newsroom manager, and the past eight as Director of Human Resources. After six years in Toronto, he moved to Calgary to report on preparations for the 1988 Winter Olympics. That was followed by five years in Edmonton as News Editor for the Prairies, and seven years as Ontario Bureau Chief in Toronto. In 2000, Woods was named Human Resources Director. A lifelong news junkie, he has returned temporarily to a front-line newsroom role as Acting Bureau Chief in Vancouver this fall. Woods is maintaining his HR portfolio and commuting regularly between Vancouver and Toronto. |
In his capacity as HR Director, Woods has helped facilitate the transformation of The Canadian Press into a diverse, multimedia operation. Reporters whose work was once targeted exclusively at newspapers or radio stations now provide content for all platforms, including video for the web.
A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, Woods taught graduating students at Ryerson University's School of Journalism in 1999-2000, and later created and taught a Continuing Education course at Ryerson called Understanding Journalism: the Inside Story.
