Janet Steffenhagen

The Vancouver Sun

Janet Steffenhagen graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism and started her career at the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. She then moved to the Ottawa bureau of Canadian Press and worked there for 10 years, covering Parliament Hill and later becoming news editor. She next transferred to Canadian Press in Vancouver and then accepted the city editor's job at the Vancouver Sun. She was city editor from 1996-97 but then returned to reporting, starting on general assignment and switching to the education beat in 1999.

She's one of the few Vancouver Sun reporters to still have a 'beat' and last fall she expanded her education coverage by making regular contributions to her Vancouver Sun blog "Report Card."
