Lauren Moore
University of Guelph
|
My name is Lauren Moore and I’d first like to say that I’m extremely honoured and proud to have received placement as one of the TD Melloche Monnex Fellows. I look forward to delving into and learning in detail the field of advancement within Canadian universities and colleges and am excited to meet professionals, such as yourselves, within the field. Throughout my life, whether personal, educational, or work wise, I have developed a passion for working with people and for excelling in education. I grew to strongly believe in the value of education, and especially post-secondary education, to furthering the potential of generations to come. |
To share a little bit about myself, I grew up in the small town of Morpeth, Ontario, about 45 minutes South of London. My parents, both alumni of the University of Guelph, are veterinarians and began their practice in Morpeth 21 years ago. I have a younger sister, currently an Agricultural Economics student at the University of Guelph, and a younger brother, about to enter his final year of high school. As a small child, I developed a love for animals, which has continued until now, and is evidenced by my owning of 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, and a bunch of chickens and ducks! A very active individual, I’ve always been involved in sporting and exercise activities, from horse back riding, to volleyball, basketball, and jogging. Educationally, I recently graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, specializing in Human Resources Management. Courses which sparked the greatest interest included recruitment and selection, HR planning, training and development, and business policy, all of which hone in on the importance of strategic planning and forecasting within an organizational setting. I attained placement on the Dean’s Honours List in all semesters of study and achieved the Dean’s In-course Scholarship for academic excellence for both the 2006 and 2007 years of study. This degree furthered my belief in the value of forming relationships with others, something critical to the field of advancement and which I look forward to practicing in the coming year. For the past two years, I have worked as a student call centre representative with Alumni Affairs and Development at the University of Guelph. Through my experience in the position, I have developed and shaped critical fundraising, marketing, and interpersonal relationship building skills in engaging alumni and others to promote the continued philanthropy engendered within the University of Guelph community. I look forward to continuing to build on these relationships within the coming year and am excited to embark on this rewarding experience.
