Stakeholder-Centered Advancement

Friday, November 18, 2011
University of Toronto, 89 Chestnut Conference Centre
Terrace Room
89 Chestnut Street
Toronto, Ontario

Host: University of Toronto

University of Toronto

Advancement offices interact with ever more diverse constituents – students of varying backgrounds and interests, multiple generations of alumni, and donors sought after by a plethora of worthy causes. How can we most effectively communicate with, cultivate and steward our stakeholders as well as manage all the tools and avenues of engagement? Advancement experts will address these topics, and more.

Featured speaker Penelope Burk, President of Cygnus Applied Research, will present findings from her latest research: the 2011 Cygnus Donor Survey. In 2000, Penelope introduced the not-for-profit industry to the concept of Donor-Centered Fundraising®, transforming the way the sector communicates with donors and bringing fundraising in line with donors' needs.

This session will also provide interesting perspectives on what to do, and not to do, during the early phases of planning and execution in alumni and fundraising among varied stakeholder communities.

2011 Cygnus Donor Survey Results
Penelope Burk

The CCAE Workshop: Ontario Region group will be the first to hear results from the 2011 Cygnus Donor Survey, conducted in February 2011, and a fall 2011 follow-up survey currently underway. Learn whether 20,000 surveyed donors are more or less optimistic now about the amount and outcomes of their philanthropy than they were two years ago, when Cygnus conducted its 2009 Donor Survey. Topics covered will include trends in giving and stewardship preferences by age groups and other demographic factors.

Penelope and her company, Cygnus Applied Research, Inc., are known for their leading-edge research with donors and their skill in helping clients adapt their fundraising operations to reflect donors' changing needs and preferences.

Donor-Centered Fundraising is the breakthrough concept in fundraising and communication that halts donor attrition while setting a new standard for fundraising success. Based on over 7 years of research with hundreds of charities and donors from across North America, the findings have produced critically important information for charities and fundraisers about why donors stop giving or give less than they could, and how retention and average gift value can be dramatically improved.
