Janis Horne
Director at Large
Director of Development – Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
University of British Columbia
Duties:
Directors-at-Large on the CCAE Board serve two-year terms (maximum of two consecutive terms) and are responsible for program areas assigned to them by the President or Board of Directors.
Profile:
Janis Horne’s 14 years to date in advancement began with a one-year term as Assistant to the Director of Development at Simon Fraser University. At SFU, she went on to positions as Director of Annual Giving, Faculty Advancement Officer in the Faculty of Arts, and eight years as Director of Alumni Relations. Currently, Janis is Director of Development – Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia.
Janis has been engaged with CCAE-Pacific since 2004, when she helped to organize a conference in Kamloops. She was Vice-President and then, from 2007-09, President of CCAE-Pacific, serving on the CCAE national Board since 2007. Janis has been involved in conceptualizing and realizing the successful CCAE-Pacific conference, ProFusion. She has been very active in fostering regional activity in western Canada, in 2009 extending participation in ProFusion to CCAE members in the Prairie provinces. She worked on the 2008 CCAE national conference in Kelowna, and served on the Program Committee for the 2009 national conference in Hamilton.
Says Janis Horne:
“I am pleased to be on the CCAE Board at this particular point in its history, with the transition from a working Board to a governance model. I have always thought that CCAE was trying to run using the busiest people imaginable. I think we will move, and already have moved, forward. It’s like a whole new stage of growing up. We will work to design conferences in the future so they can be transported from one region to another. Once we have a healthy level of professional development activity regionally, we will be a much stronger organization, with a national conference supplemented by regional conferences throughout the year.”
