Director, Principal Gifts
The University of Alberta welcomes applications for the position of Director, Principal Gifts. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President and Chief Development Officer, the Director provides leadership for a wide range of principal gift strategies and initiatives in support of identified priorities. This key leadership position is responsible for directing campus-wide principal gift initiatives (greater than $1 million), developing strategic and tactical plans to meet university fundraising objectives, and supporting the President in philanthropic meetings.
We are seeking a senior development professional to lead the university's principal gift strategies, to develop a pro-active program, and to cultivate long-term support for the university from alumni, individuals, corporations, foundations, and community organizations.
Within the assigned portfolio, the Director, Principal Gifts has the following responsibilities:
• Understand the University of Alberta's mission, strategic priorities, needs, and work collaboratively with senior management (President, Vice-Presidents, Deans) to establish appropriate development programs and activities;
• Build and maintain good working relationships within the university community and with key constituents;
• Manage principal gift relationships;
• Direct development of appropriate events and activities for a portfolio of prospects;
• Co-ordinate post-gift stewardship of each donor and provide personalized attention;
• Work collaboratively with development colleagues on campus; and
• Supervise the Principal Gift team.
Candidates must have a university degree, at least 10 years of development experience, preferably in a post-secondary setting, effective written and oral communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills, experience with client databases preferably BSR Advance, knowledge of post-secondary education in Canada and related issues and trends, and knowledge of the fund raising environment in Alberta and Canada including awareness of the latest trends in philanthropic principles and strategies. Some travel will be necessary. Certified Fund Raising Executive considered an asset.
This is a two-year administrative professional position with a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $69,000 - $115,100, effective July 1, 2009.
