One Year Contract (with the possibility of renewal)

The University of Waterloo is currently executing a major fundraising initiative, Campaign Waterloo. The campaign has surpassed its stretch goal of $350 million, raising $500 million, and began to work on a plan to grow the private-sector fundraising revenue from $50 million to $100 million annually, in response to the university’s sixth decade plan: Pursuing Global Excellence and Seizing Opportunities for Canada.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo is the largest and most complex with 17 departments, the School of Accounting and Finance and the newly established Balsillie School of International Affairs. Waterloo Arts has seen tremendous success in recent years and is looking for a dynamic development officer to join the Arts Advancement team.

The incumbent reports directly to the Director of Advancement, Faculty of Arts. The Development Officer works with both the Faculty of Arts and the Central Office of Development.

Responsibilities:
• Establish a fundraising program for a major new Arts building working with Faculty of Arts and UW alumni 
• Plan, develop, implement and evaluate fundraising strategies within the Faculty for the corporate, foundation, individuals and alumni sectors, including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities; 
• Actively seeks out new prospects for the Faculty and coordinates prospect identification and research activities; 
• Develops proposals for projects tailored to the specific interests of corporations, foundations, individuals and associations in conjunction with the Faculty, Departments and External Relations; 
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the corporate sector (donations officers, senior officers, etc.), including calls on companies, arranging site visits to campus, special events, announcements, information exchanges; 
• Coordinates special projects and campaigns as assigned; 
Qualifications:
• University degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required. 
• Extensive fundraising experience including establishing individual, foundation and corporate relationships from cultivation through to stewardship
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) with strong relationship development and proposal writing experience
• Supervisory and leadership experience preferred. 
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical and research skills. 
• Sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and demonstrated problem solving skills. 
• Understanding of the university environment including the integration of research.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, highly computerized and challenging environment. 
• This position involves some travel along with occasional evening and weekend work.
