QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates for this position should have a Bachelor’s degree; a Master’s degree is preferred. Post-secondary education in communications and marketing is required; equivalent experience will be considered. Candidates should have five or more years of related work experience in a combination of administration, personnel and budget management, recruitment, marketing, and public relations, preferably in a post-secondary educational institution.

We are looking for a dynamic and effective leader with team-building and supervisory skills along with project management training and experience. The right candidate would be an experienced and persuasive public speaker; someone comfortable in speaking to any size or kind of group including young people, their parents, teachers, and principals; someone with excellent written and oral communication skills, and excellent marketing techniques, including well-developed research, writing, editing, proofing, design and layout skills.

Candidates should have excellent personal computer skills, with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, publication and graphics programs, HTML and website software. Experience with the Sungard SCT Banner student information system would be a significant asset. Candidates should also have skills and experience in analyzing data, particularly enrolment data and in working with data systems. Candidates should possess a valid driver’s license, the stamina to maintain a hectic travel and work schedule (with the ability to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously), and the ability to lift and carry heavy boxes of promotional materials, display units, and AV equipment.

Preferably, candidates would have a strong knowledge of all aspects of the admission application process, including especially a knowledge of Canadian and international educational systems at the secondary and post-secondary levels. An extensive knowledge of the University of Manitoba, its programs, history, student services, and admission and registration processes would also be preferred.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Consider joining one of the best Student Affairs teams in the country. The University of Manitoba is seeking a creative, energetic, resourceful, and experienced leader to guide its efforts in recruiting students to its undergraduate and professional programs. Reporting to the Executive Director of Enrolment Services, the Director of Student Recruitment shapes a recruitment plan with the strategic enrolment management team led by the Vice-Provost (Student Affairs) and then leads the implementation of the plan, with the responsibility for achieving defined enrolment targets, with the help of the Student Recruitment staff and in cooperation with the University’s many faculties and schools. The Director is responsible for developing and delivering excellent services for prospective students as well as for all budget and personnel management in Student Recruitment. In addition, the Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of those modules within the University’s student information system that support the student recruitment function. The University of Manitoba recruits students in Manitoba, across Canada, and around the world, with a special focus on Aboriginal and international students.


Student Affairs is a large division with academic and administrative responsibilities for ensuring student recruitment, retention, development and success. Broadly speaking, responsibilities for student recruitment fall to the Enrolment Services area within Student Affairs, including: Student Recruitment, Admissions, Financial Aid & Awards, and the English Language Centre.
