The Opportunity

The Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation is seeking an experienced and accomplished fundraising professional to serve in the role of Executive Director. Reporting to and working closely with the BCHSF Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead the Foundation staff team and volunteers in achieving both revenue and relationship goals. The Executive Director will also collaborate closely with the Hospital System CEO and leadership team.

The Brant Community Healthcare System & and the BCHS Foundation


Brantford General Hospital is a regional acute health centre and the Willett site provides urgent care and community outreach programs. With a total of 350 beds, these Brant Community Healthcare System partners form have more than 175 physicians, 1300 highly trained employees, and over 500 volunteers. In response to a growing need for additional funding to support healthcare in Brant/Brantford the Brantford General Hospital Foundation was formed in 1977. The Willett Hospital Foundation was established in 1985 specifically to raise funds to support The Willett Hospital. To more effectively support the needs of the Brant Community Healthcare System, these two organizations combined to form the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation on April 1, 2010 generous support of over $2.5 million from our donors last year enabled the best possible care using state-of-the-art equipment. The BGHF and TWF recently completed campaigns for an MRI machine at BGH and major renovations to Urgent Care at the Willett. We are currently undertaking efforts to raise funds for a CT scanner. Our staff team manages a variety of philanthropic programs and enjoys an exceptionally strong and collaborative relationship with our board and with BCHS colleagues.
 

The Ideal Candidate


The ideal candidate will achieve deep satisfaction from leading the growth of the Foundation, from attaining goals through collaborative effort, and from the resulting positive impact of this success on our hospital system and our community. Possessing a strong professional fundraising history and competency, the Executive Director will have knowledge of fundraising fundamentals and best practices, and broad experience in all aspects of fund and relationship development. Previous experience in developing major and planned giving programs is expected, and the successful candidate will apply this experience at BCHSF to drive future success and sustainability. Enthusiastic, patient, and persistent, the Executive Director will focus efforts on achieving greater awareness and support for our Foundation. Organized in thought and approach, the ideal candidate will easily synthesize information to make well-reasoned decisions, and will consistently follow through to action on these decisions. A strategic and critical thinker who considers immediate and more global impacts, the successful candidate will see the big picture and direct the team to manage the myriad activities and details that flow from it. The Executive Director will build a team of high performers that effectively and efficiently focuses energies and attention on key priorities. Inclusive, accessible, and respectful of others, the new incumbent will provide clear expectations, support, and latitude to employees to help them find success and reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will model and emphasize professional growth and development, and will be able to make mistakes, learn, and move forward without losing optimism an open communicator who observes and listens, the successful candidate will value ideas and input from others. The Executive Director will build trust and confidence quickly, and work as a partner and collaborator with the Board, with BCHS leadership, and with hospital system employees. As an inspiring and effective teacher and mentor, the Executive Director will put a system in place to educate people, internally and externally, about needs, impact, and the role they can play in the fund development process. The ideal candidate will also recognize and value the history of our organization, and celebrate the commitment and efforts of current and past volunteers. As a highly-visible ambassador and champion for the Foundation, the Executive Director will be a charismatic, friendly individual who leaves an indelible first impression. Focused on developing relationships and success by getting out and meeting people face-to-face, the ideal candidate will be an exceptional connector who is able to leverage networks effectively. The successful candidate will give themselves and their time to our community, will demonstrate a previous track-record of significant community engagement and voluntarism. The Executive Director will be known as a hard worker who goes the extra mile for donors, volunteers, colleagues, and staff. Genuine and confident, the ideal candidate will combine professionalism with levity, and directness with diplomacy. The successful candidate will demonstrate superior business acumen, including previous experience in managing some of the operational aspects of an organizational. In addition, the Executive Director will be experienced in the dynamics and management of change, and will contribute to leading and supporting this in our organization.
