ABOUT PEARSON COLLEGE
Located on a sheltered bay on the southern tip of Vancouver Island near Victoria, Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific is a diverse and unique two-year pre-university school that brings 200 students and 50 staff from 100 countries to live and learn together. Founded in 1974, Pearson College was named in honour of the work done by the late Canadian Prime Minister and Canada’s only Nobel Peace Laureate, Lester B. Pearson. Lester Pearson initiated the work to found a United World College “of the Pacific” as a way of continuing the promotion of peace and understanding in the world. As one of 13 United World Colleges worldwide, Pearson College aims to educate the whole person and works towards peace, compassion and understanding between peoples. All students attend Pearson College on full scholarship, including tuition, room, and board. Students are selected based on promise and potential, regardless of race, religion, politics or financial means. Scholarships are funded entirely by donation, a challenge which highlights the generosity of the foundations, non-governmental organizations, companies, governments, alumni and individuals who share Pearson’s commitment to peace, diversity, and international and intercultural understanding. Pearson College of the Pacific Foundation was established to support the full scholarship policy of the College in perpetuity. More than 3,300 students have graduated from Pearson College since inception. Our alumni network fosters lifelong relationships that extend across generations and around the world. Our alumni are working in many professions and capacities, and apply in their lives the ideals encouraged here at Pearson College in order to make a difference in their communities as a positive force for peace.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Pearson College is seeking a Vice President, Philanthropy & Engagement to orchestrate and coordinate the College’s strategy and efforts in fundraising, alumni and donor engagement, and communications and marketing. Reporting to the College Director, and partnering closely with the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, the new incumbent will serve as a member of the Pearson’s Executive Team. The Vice President, Philanthropy & Engagement will also work in close collaboration with Pearson’s Foundation Boards in Canada and the USA.
