2008 - The Rising Star Awards

Ashley Goodon, BA, CFRE

University of Manitoba

Arriving at the University of Manitoba as a student in 2001, Ashley Goodon never realized the effect her post-secondary experience would have on her career and life. Starting as a student caller in her first year of university, Ashley was soon promoted to a student supervisor. Within a year she assumed the full-time responsibilities of managing the fifteen-station call centre. During this time, Ashley also completed her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree. Shortly thereafter she increased her portfolio to include all alumni fundraising in the annual giving program – telephone, direct mail and personal solicitations.

In 2006, Ashley made the leap to major gift fundraising as a development officer for the faculties of engineering and law. After a year and a half and over $1.5 million raised, an opportunity to return to the annual giving program presented itself.

Ashley jumped at the chance to return to her true passion in fundraising and assumed the position of manager, annual giving in 2007. Since her return to the program, Ashley has instituted many new programs, while rejuvenating old ones. Additionally, she independently studied for and received her Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation in December 2007.

Ashley’s dedication to the fundraising profession can be further exemplified in her volunteer activities. Within the AFP, Manitoba Chapter, Ashley has served on the board as secretary and is currently serving as the stewardship and sponsorship chair. She actively participated in the inaugural Essentials Program for new and developing non-profit organizations, as an organizer and presenter of the “Individual Major Gifts Fundraising” module. She has also served on numerous committees within the CCAE organization, including logistics chairperson and presenter for the 2004 Forum on Annual Giving, programs co-chair for the 2006 Forum on Annual Giving, and as a member of the website redesign sub-committee for the Volunteer Management Committee.
